Artistic Director: Porfirio
Vidal
Mr.
Vidal began dancing at age seventeen in his hometown of Puebla,
Mexico, taking workshops with Vidal Calvario Tepox. He has carried
this inspiration with him across international borders and afer
arriving in the United States, Mr. Vidal first danced with the
Los Angeles High School Folklorico Group and then with Santa Monica
College Folklorico. In 2000, he joined Ballet Folklorico del Pacifico
where he danced for three years and moved from chorus dancer to
a principal dancer. Mr. Vidal then became a founding member of
Grandeza Mexicana Folk Ballet Company in 2003 and continues to
serve as an artistic director and choreographer.
In 2004 Jose Vences developed the
concept of forming a dance academy to develop the company’s
next generation of dancers. Later that year, Mr. Vidal was presented
with a challenge of becoming the artistic director and choreographer
of Grandeza Mexicana Dance Academy under the direction of Jose
Vences.
