Mission Statement:

To celebrate the depth and diversity of Mexican folk culture through dance.

Our Purpose:

Our primary goal is to present performances that inspire and educate audiences on the beauty and diversity of Mexico’s colorful dance traditions.   Our choreographies are developed through research on Mexican folk dance and culture, input from collaborating choreographers and historians, and by studying and appreciating the work of other artists.  Though stylized, our work is drawn from authentic and indigenous dances created by communities across Mexico.

As we grow, we will continue to extend the folklorico experience to include workshops, meaningful participation in community events, educational content on our website, and informative publications.

We strive to continually improve our talent as dancers, choreographers, and leaders to take ballet folklorico to a new level.

Our greater goal is to advance the field of ballet folklorico in the United States and help establish Los Angeles as a major center for folklorico.  Many of you from our area know how many groups there are in Southern California – almost a hundred at last count in public schools, churches, dance studios, and community parks.  We want to help bring recognition to the talent and hard work of all these groups, and work together to build the strength of the folklorico community.

In meeting our goals, we consider the following important questions:

How can ballet folklorico broaden the public’s understanding of Mexican culture?

How can our work create opportunities for dancers to develop their talent and express their cultural pride?

What impact does folklorico have on our community and what even greater impact can it have in the future?

What does it mean to be a leader in a community of such strong talent and commitment as ours?

We work to answer these questions with every activity we do, from performances to workshops and our annual competition, to our rehearsals and choreographies.  The loyal support of our audiences means a great deal to us and we hope you will continue to support our work.
